Inc. Magazine recently named Reno No. 1 on its list of the Best Places to Do Business in America, based this year on job growth figures among 274 metropolitan areas. "Our region's tourism and gaming industry works hand-in-hand with general business ensuring a vital and healthy economy," said Jeff Beckelman, president and CEO of the Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority (RSCVA). "The partnership between business and tourism benefits the entire region and supports positioning the destination as gaming-Plus."


The Inc. Magazine listing follows a series of national rankings northern Nevada has earned over the past year, including:

Reno ranking third among the nation's best places to live by Men's Journal (April 2005) and Reno-Sparks ranking among the top 10 percent of metropolitan cities in the United States for economic strength according to POLICOM Corporation, a national economic research firm (December 2004).


Reno Nevada in the old daysForbes Magazine named Reno No 12 in the country for Job Growth in 2005 and # 25 for Doing Business in 2004. "You're at the top of the country with 4.2 percent job growth," Scott Anderson, Wells Fargo senior economist based in Minneapolis, said of Nevada's employment picture. "The national average is about 1 percent. You're steady as she goes."


Times Magazine, for the third consecutive year Reno ranked third as best overall place to live with 255 days of sunshine and its ideal location nestled at the base of the Sierra Nevada in proximity to Lake Tahoe. It went on to say that Reno is one of the "hottest cities to find jobs". "California has always been a 'feeder' market to northwestern Nevada as companies are continually looking for a more business-friendly environment which explains the 17 California companies that have relocated to our area in the last three years" said Chuck Alvey, president and CEO of the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN). "However, we've seen a significant increase in inquiries from California companies since early 2003 as a result of the rising costs and the uncertainty of doing business. Now more than 90 percent of the companies we work with are from California which is up from the traditional 55 to 60 percent."
